100-200 North Washington Street
The town had several public water pumps during the 1800s and one was located on Washington Street between Congress Avenue and the former St. Clair Street (now Pennington Avenue). People watered their horses there until 1908. The 100-200 block of North Washington Street was often referred to as “below the Railroad,” because the railroad ran west to east along St. Clair Street (now Pennington Avenue) to the water. The 200 block of North Washington Street ran north of the Railroad.
