233 St. John Street, c. 1958

The 1921 Sanborn Insurance Map shows four small dwellings/shops on the east side of St. John Street at the corner of Green Street. The property was owned for some time by Edward V. Stockham, Inc. which owned the Seneca Cannery but was sold by them in 1956 to the Bayou Realty Company.
In 1957, the First National Bank & Trust Company bought the premises and constructed a new building here. They moved from 321 St. John Street and celebrated their 75th Anniversary in 1958. The First National Bank & Trust was renamed as The Maryland National Bank in 1971.
By 1988, this property was sold to The Commercial Bank, later to become the Branch Banking & Trust Company. That bank vacated the premises around 2008 and sold the building in 2013 to Nikos, Inc. In 2014 Nikos Kapsis for Nikos, Inc. sold the building and large two lots to 223 St. John Street, LLC.
In May 2016 the interior was converted into the retail location for Glyph Design and store, previously on Washington Street. Glyph has closed their retail operation and moved. This building became the new home of Brookbend Interiors in October 2021. The property continues to be owned by 223 St. John Street, LLC.
