116 South Union Avenue, Sutor Apartments, c. 1868
This home may have been built on the foundation of a previous building, evidenced by basement timbers that appear to be hand hewn and contained large spikes, which the 1977 owner, Marvin Sutor, believed to be handmade. This could put its construction date earlier than the Correri House next door at 112 South Union Avenue.
In 1893, Elizabeth Hopkins sold this property to Charles T. Wilson (1848-1921). Charles was the son of Captain John Wilson and Mary, his wife, who married Cyrena Bateman Wilson. Charles was a teacher at the Havre de Grace High School in 1873 and served as Mayor from 1907 to 1909. At his death in 1921, Charles bequeathed this home to Cyrena. Five years later Cyrena sold the home to Charles S. Wilson (b.1891) and Carrie W. Wilson (b.1897), his wife.
Charles and Carrie Wilson sold this home in 1951 to Amber Doggett Sutor, who recently had been divorced from her husband, Oliver E. Sutor (1901-1977). Amber also owned the gas station property in Legion Square on North Union Avenue.
Amber Sutor owned this until 1974 when her estate conveyed it to Marvin O. Sutor (1924-2003), her son. He sold it in 1986 to Orie Winfield Davison and Darce Jean Davison. Over the past several decades, this building appears to have been rented as apartments. Since 2003, this has been owned by Orie W. Davison.
