613 South Washington Street, c. 1914
When William A. Bailey (1816-1873) died, he and his wife, Phebe, owned five parcels of land including this one. When Phebe died in 1906, Court Trustees for their heirs issued deeds for the land. Two parts of Lot 386 were sold to David A. and Mary Fisher by 1910; the Fishers sold those two parts in 1913 to J. Howard Taylor (1878-1960) and Lucretia Taylor. This house was built on that land either by the Fishers between 1910 and 1913 or by the Taylors around 1914. It is known that the Taylors had telephone service in their home in 1916. David Fisher was a fellow director of the Havre de Grace Banking & Trust Company in 1910 with Murray Vandiver, Charles B. Silver, and others. Lucretia Taylor died in 1929 and J. Howard Taylor later married Bessie M. Taylor (1910-1990).
Howard and Bessie Taylor sold this house in 1940 to George and Anna Palmer. George was involved with horse racing in the mid-Atlantic area as a result of which his son became a veterinarian, specializing in horses. From 1948 to 1970 the house was owned by Mildred and Fred Schopfer (1910-1971). Fred had served in the Army in WWII. William and Marlane Hamilton owned the home for about three years in the early 1970s and in 1974 they sold the home to William “Bill” and Lydia McIntyre.
The McIntyres have made this their home for more than 40 years. Bill McIntyre is well known locally as an archaeologist who frequently gives talks and presentations to local organizations. He is Vice President of the Archeological Society of the Northern Chesapeake.
