201-203 South Washington Street, c. 1903; 1984

In 1900, Augustus J. Drechsler sold three adjacent lots of land at the southeast corner of Bourbon and South Washington Streets to George and Esther Bunce. George Bunce was known for being awarded three patents in 1903 for “Medicines and Compounds.” It is likely that George Bunce built the two-story home on the corner (#201) that he sold in 1903 to John and Johanna Fisher. They lived here for 20 years. In 1943 Christopher J. Rosemer bought the three lots with the building, which in 1946 became Radio Electric Sales & Service. They sold hot plates, steam irons, coffee makers, and other electrical appliances and also did repair of electric motors.
Christopher Rosemer sold two of the lots with the house in 1954, retaining one lot. In 1961, Zephyr Ventilated Awnings of Maryland bought the corner property and ran their business here for a couple of years. In 1963 the property was owned for a couple more years by Cameron Hebditch, Jr. and his wife, Victorina, who sold it to Frank and Elsie Maslin in 1966. The Maslins owned other properties in town so no doubt they rented out the building (some have said that Opal’s Hair Stylist was here in 1967).
In 1973 the Maslins sold the corner property to Dr. Salvatore Vozzella and his wife, Patricia. The Vozzellas also acquired the third lot that was owned by Christopher Rosemer since 1954. It is believed that the Vozzellas created a dental practice here until Salvatore’s death in 1983. The following year, Patricia Vozzella created a partnership with Dr. Richard V. Grubb and his wife, Brigitte Grubb, and deeded the property to the three of them. This large medical building includes the original #201 building on the corner as well as the new building that they constructed in 1984 at #203 South Washington Street.
