664-666 Otsego Street, 1910

It appears that ownership of this piece of land on the southeast corner of Otsego and North Adams Streets was in dispute within the Boyd family in 1910 so a Court Trustee sold it to George H. Howlett (1868-1939). The Boyds owned the home and lot just south of this house on North Adams Street for several years. George Howlett most likely built this American foursquare-design home where he lived for the next five years with his wife, Mary Ann. George H. Howlett and James T. Holly were the only manufacturers of “Ship and Boat Building, Wood” in MD Bureau of Statistics Reports from 1894 to 1908. George and James [Jim] were also known locally as members of the Bayside Cornet Band, which performed around town between 1887 and 1915 at major events and in the bandstand in City Park (now Tydings Park). While they both played the snare drum, another Band member was John Kennedy who played the trombone. George and Mary Ann’s daughter, Annie Kate Howlett, later married Harford County Judge Frederick Lee Cobourn (1885-1962).
The Howletts sold the home in 1915 to Isaac I. Leithiser (1858-1922), who was an inspector on the railroad, and his wife, Catharine “Kate.” Soon after that, their son, Samuel Lyell Leithiser, enlisted for WWI and served overseas until June 1919, when he was honorably discharged. First Lt. Samuel Leithiser is listed on the War Memorial Honor Roll in Tydings Park. While he was at war, his mother Catharine died, and Isaac Leithiser sold this house in 1918 to Mary R. Mitchell and Lida A. Baker, whose combined families lived here for almost the next 50 years. Mary Mitchell and Lida Baker were successful co-authors of books on English grammar, which are still available today and published by the McGraw-Hill Company. When Mary Mitchell died, she bequeathed her interest in the home to Lida Baker.
In 1967 Lida Baker sold this property to James and Nora Dennis, who had three sons (all of whom predeceased Nora, who died at 91 in 2012). The widowed Nora Davis sold the home in 1978 to David Ambrose Baker and David Matthew Baker. During the next few years this single family home operated as two separate units and was owned by an investment partnership.
The next owners in 1986 were two couples, Paul and Sandra Rosinski and Kenneth and Karla Heath each owning a one-half interest in the property. In 1989 the Rosinskis sold their interest to the Heaths. James Allen Boyle, a local businessman in finance and real estate, bought this home from the Heaths in 2005 as an investment property. He sold it in 2013, however, to Adam M. Spice. New owners in 2018 were Dr. Wendol Williams and Deanna Williams of Connecticut who undertook a major renovation and updating of the property that returned it to being a single family home. Brian and Ashley Heckman bought this home in 2019 for their family.
