306 South Washington Street, c. 1890

Ownership of this house was in dispute when a court trustee sold it in 1901 to Eda B. Cole and her husband at public sale and mortgaged it through her employer, The Columbian Building Association of Harford County. However, ownership reverted to the Association in 1915 and they resold it to John and Johanna Fisher. Members of the Fisher family owned the home from 1915 until 1977. John and Johanna Fisher left it to their daughter in 1938, Anna Marie Haggerty, and upon her death she left it to John J. Fisher, Jr. (1908-1976), her brother. John Fisher Jr. served for many years as a teacher and vice principal of the Havre de Grace High School.
In 1977 John Fisher’s Estate sold the home to Wilmer H. Scotten, former director of personnel of the Maryland Department of Education. Wilmer Scotten made extensive improvements to the house but was careful that none altered the character of the original structure. In 1983, the house was sold to James Nemeth and Carol Hill, who married and became James and Carol Nemeth. In 1987, the Nemeths sold this home and purchased the Spencer-Silver Mansion on South Union Avenue. As many locals know, the Nemeths spent the next few years doing a major renovation of that very neglected mansion, which today is spectacular.
By 1987, this was the home of artist Susan Snodgrass who opened her home to the 1990 Annual Candlelight Tour. Susan has been creating porcelain fairies, mermaids, dolls, and other one-of-a-kind pieces for many years; her work appears in galleries throughout the country. During the tour, visitors could see that while the main house structure was Victorian, earlier portions of the house suggested Federal influence, such as the built-in kitchen cupboard and the back stairway from the kitchen to the second floor.
In 2008 the home was bought by Joseph L. Greco and Marie Rocco (1965-2012), his wife, as their second home. Although they both grew up in Staten Island, New York, their primary home was in Vail Colorado since 2004. They loved skiing and sailing but sadly Marie Rocco died in a drowning accident in 2012 in Havre de Grace. Two years later, the widowed Joseph Greco sold the home to Matthew E. and Julie K. Keenan who still own this historic home and large lot.
