120-122 South Washington Street, 1881
This lot of ground, and most likely the house, were sold by Cornelius P. Field (1820-1895) and his wife, Mary Coller Field, in 1881 to Louisa Galloway. Cornelius had come to Havre de Grace in 1860 and worked closely with John DuBois in construction of the lumber mill at the foot of Bourbon Street. He also served as a Town Commissioner for several years. Louisa Galloway (1842-1901) was the wife of Captain Peter Galloway, Jr. with whom she had four sons.
When Louisa died in 1901, Captain Galloway and his family members sold the house to Helen B. Green (1849-1920). When Helen Green died she bequeathed the property to her daughter, Helen J. Burns (1881-1960), who had several children. Upon the death of Helen Burns in 1960, she left the property to her daughter, Louise B. Waller (until she could establish herself), and then to her other children. The children, however, deeded the property back solely to Louise Waller. Louise Waller and her mother also owned 110 South Washington Street from 1948 to 1978 as previously noted.
When Louise Waller died in 1983, her estate sold this house to Joseph and Roseanne Cook. When the Cooks moved out of town in 2005 it was bought by Charles E. Hiner and Margaret J. Perry, who owned BCH Real Estate. The property was bought in 2019 by Laurel Lynn Martz Coates as an investment property and there are rental units in the house. Laurel Coates is also the owner of the historical house at 117 South Washington Street, also an investment property.
