729 Ontario Street, Evans House, c. 1890
This home was owned from at least 1916 by Clifton and Lila Keatley until 1951 when it was inherited by Lila Keatley’s daughter, Dorothy Evans. Upon her death in 1966, Dorothy bequeathed it to Hamar Evans (her son) and his wife, Thelma Immler. Hamar died only two years later and left it to their daughter, Stephanie Evans Anderson (1950-2016), who had married Nord Anderson and had a son. They divorced in 1991 but Stephanie continued living in the home.
Stephanie Anderson later married Carlos (Chuck) T. Costa. She was well known in Havre de Grace as the operator and chef of the Ritz Gourmet Café on North Washington Street, where she made delicious desserts and other food. Stephanie Anderson-Costa died in 2016 and is survived by her son, Aaron Anderson. Chuck Costa predeceased Stephanie.
Ownership of this home had remained in the same extended family for more than 100 years--first by the Keatleys, then Evans, and then the Andersons, with close relationships between them.
Since December 2018, this home has been owned by Clampet Management, LLC, of Joppa, Maryland, as a rental property, but in April 2020 it suffered severe damage from a fire.
