800 Erie Street, Cianelli House, mid-19th century
This small house sits on the southwest corner of Erie and Juniata Streets but thought by some to have formerly been an early railroad depot elsewhere. The first people currently known to have owned this house were Ellen Barnes Treadway (1830-1906 and daughter of Aquila Treadway), Sarah Barnes Treadway (1832-1901 and widow of Aquila Treadway), and Jacob J. Michael (1816-1892) who together sold this house to Emanuel Ansalvish (1843-1918) and his wife, Mary, in 1889.
Emanuel and Mary Ansalvish sold the property to Michael P. Boyd (1860-1941) and Mary A. Boyd in 1891. Michael worked as a drayman, making deliveries with his horse and wagon and it is believed that they lived here until 1923. They sold this to Dominic Bungori (Buongori), whose wife was Jessie “May” Hipkins Bungori (and later married Alfred DiGiovanni) and had two daughters, Helen Zimmerman and Viola Margaret Owens. After owning this home for only one year Dominic and May sold this to Massimina and Carmen Dividio (1859-1936) in 1924.
Elvira Dominick (and her husband, Frank) inherited this home in 1938 by the Last Will of Carmen Dividio. Upon the death of Elvira in 1950, however, the widower Frank Dominick sold this property to Francesco “Frank” Cianelli, Sr. (1899-1990) and Ida, his wife, both of whom were born in Italy and had four children. Betty Angelucci says her Mom lived here. Frank and Ida belonged to the same large Italian Cianelli family who owned property in the 700 block of Erie Street and operated two very popular sub shops in town. Frank and Ida owned this property as well as the Villa Roma at 800 North Juniata Street. This was an investment property for them; they lived on Chesapeake Drive.
Ida Cianelli died in 1987, followed by Frank Cianelli in 1990. Their son, Frank Cianelli, Jr. as Personal Representative of his father’s Estate sold this house in 1993 to Mark D. Schorah. Mark, son of Thomas and Audrey Schorah, grew up in Havre de Grace and continues to live in this historic house.
