600 South Union Avenue, rebuilt c. 1952

This building was bought in 1923 by Anna H. Mitchell (1883-1961) and her husband, Walter F. Mitchell (1869-1944). Walter Mitchell was the nephew of Annie E. Seneca (of Seneca Canning).
The widowed Anna Mitchell sold the property in 1952 to Dr. Richard B. Norment and his wife, who previously lived at 407 South Union Avenue. It is thought that the Norments rebuilt a previous home here as medical offices, and created two front entrances. From that point forward to 2013, various physicians had their medical offices here. They included Drs. Norment, Charles Marek, and Frederick J. Hatem, who were well known gynecologists and obstetricians who delivered many of Havre de Grace’s citizens. Dr. Hatem and his wife, Arianna, might be the best known of them and lived in a beautiful home at the foot of Washington Street overlooking Tydings Park and the yacht basin.
This building is now owned and managed by Bangs Properties, LLC.
